    It turns out that "Everybody's Got My Baby" has even deeper origins than the Carl Perkins track. In , a Western swing band, Roy Newman & His Boys, recorded a Newman song called "Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby" that had many melodic similarities with the song that Perkins recorded (and took writing credit for).

Perkins recorded his song with the same title with similar music but an updated arrangement in for Sun Records.
